What can a job post tell you about a prospect?

Read the responsibilities and initiative behind the vacancy before deciding whether your offering belongs in the conversation.

Start with the work, not the title.

A title can be broad. Responsibilities may reveal a more specific situation: building a function, improving delivery, implementing systems or supporting a defined project.

Extract the actual task before adding a commercial interpretation. “Own engineering delivery” can support a question about planning practices; it does not prove that the company wants your software.

Find the connection to your capability.

Describe the precise way your offering could support the work. A software development provider, a planning-tool seller and a marketing agency should not receive the same explanation for an engineering role.

If the connection requires capabilities you do not deliver, the event may be a poor fit. A credible assessment also identifies that absence.

Check the boundaries of the evidence.

Confirm the company, role, source date and whether the posting is still available. A listing can be old, duplicated or an intermediary’s advertisement. Preserve uncertainty when the source cannot be checked.

Hiring internally may be the intended solution. A vacancy does not establish an outside-provider search, a failing team or an undisclosed budget.

Turn the observation into a question.

Ask about the responsibility described and the way the team intends to address it. Keep the message specific enough to be useful while allowing the prospect to explain their situation.

The hiring example in Intentarray’s library shows an engineering-delivery context and a question about the workflow. It is a historical, adapted example, not a current vacancy feed.

What changed · Meridian Cloud

A software company advertises a Director of Engineering role focused on delivery.

Evidence to consider

The company’s hiring announcement names engineering delivery and leadership as responsibilities.

The business priority

Strengthen engineering delivery and the way work moves through the team.

Delivery priorities give a development-planning product a specific workflow to research: how the team plans work, tracks issues and coordinates delivery.

A question to explore

“Which parts of planning, issue tracking or delivery coordination are you looking to improve?”

An advertised role is not an appointment or a confirmed software purchase. A tool evaluation and budget still need to be established.
